Front Cover Of College Magazine.

Questionnaire Analysis.

As a class we were given the task to create a college magazine, as preparation we created a questionnaire about magazines. The questions within were all related to what consumers would like to see within a college magazine.
The gender of the people we asked was 50% male and 50% female. The people we asked only 50% would not read the college magazine, and the other would. Of the 50% who would read the college magazine, only 15% would actually pay for the magazine, making the frequency of the magazine production low. Overall the frequency would start off at every half term, and then once an audience had been established, and they had spread the word to others, the magazine could be created more often. As if the magazine started of being created every week then it would cost too much, and not be worth creating.

From the questionnaire the most common things that people would like to see in the magazine are;
§  Music
§  College events/information
§  Food
§  Fashion
§  Sport
§  Gossip
§  News

Looking at the results of the questionnaire we can see that the most important thing that would influence people to buy the college magazine would be the front cover – making it eye catching and informative. Also what would be included in the magazine, the information, the images, and how relative it is to them. Another important factor of the magazine sales seems to be the price, but from looking at previous questions and seeing that only 15% of people questioned would pay for the magazine, the price seems irrelevant as it would prove more beneficial if the magazine was free to begin with whilst it is establishing its audience.

The questionnaire has shown that the possibility of a free gift being included with the magazine would attract the audience more to read/purchase it. However if only 15% of people questioned were willing to pay for the magazine, then it seems the idea of having a free gift with each copy is not affordable. And to have a free gift it would have to come later on, when again the magazine is more established. To entice the other 35% of readers who would not pay to get the magazine and idea would be to start of producing the magazine for free, and then when an audience has been set, to put a price on the magazine. But if that put off the reader and idea would be to have a page marketing the free gift for the next issue, whilst also marketing the price attached to the next issue.

Of the people questioned it appears that they would be more likely to read a web based version of the magazine – however creating and maintaining a web version would have to come at a later time, once the audience knew about the magazine, this would also save on costs, and mean more updates could be made more frequently. Of those asked 50% of them said that they would contribute to creating the magazine.

College Magazine Analysis.

For my college magazine it features a picture of two students both holding college equipment (folders), which will appeal to my target audience of students. I have challenged the conventional place to put a magazine headline, by placing it at the bottom. The colour of the magazine title is in the same colour as the college logo, creating a theme. The contents of inside the magazine are by the side of the image, in various sizes. I have made words which I think will appeal more to my target audience in a larger font, also I have made each font relevant to what it says – for example, more italic writing for clothing as it connotes elegance.

The content on the contents page is the top answers from the questionnaire, meaning it will automatically appeal to my target audience.  My contents page is a plain background with post-it notes as I think as college students this would be relevant to them. Each post-it and writing is a different colour to separate each of the contents. All the font is the same so that it is simple and easy to find the page/information you want. The post-it’s are in chronological order, to make it easy to read.
